Mandatory Leaf Raking Fundraiser- Saturday, November 11th
We practice 5-6 days per week Monday through Saturday. Practices during the week are typically after school from 4:50-6:30/7:00 pm. Occasionally we'll have Wednesday morning practices before school when we need more light. Saturdays are half-days or full days. Our practice location and activity varies each day across town (and the state). Practice schedules are sent out on a weekly basis the weekend before the coming week.
We generally try to meet at the same location and start practices together. However, because we have such a wide range of abilities, we do occasionally split skiers up into different groups for certain practices like roller skiing or long-distance days. We want each student-athlete to have a training plan that fits their ability, needs, and goals. Avoiding a one-size-fits-all training plan helps ensure that all student-athletes receive the coaching and workouts they need to become better skiers.
When there is no snow in town, dryland practices consist of running, roller skiing*, strength training, and hill bounding. *Roller skiing poses an inherent risk of falling/crashing. Because of this, roller skiing is optional.
When there is snow, we'll ski in town. Usually at Poudre High School or Cattail Creek Golf Course. This year, we also have Hoedown Hill in Windsor. If they are able to consistently make snow, we'll ski there every Tuesday and Wednesday!
On Saturdays we drive up to the mountains to ski at a variety of places including: Moose Visitor Center (Colorado Forest State Park), Happy Jack (Laramie, WY), Snow Mountain Ranch (Granby), Steamboat Springs, Eldora, and more! We understand that having practice at different locations and flexible times causes logistical challenges for many families, especially when the students can't drive themselves. We do have a carpool contact/sign up sheet to assist with transportation needs. Between upperclassmen and volunteer parents, we're able to get kids safely to and from practices. There are occasional Saturday practices held out of town where we don't have a team bus. In these situations, we rely on parent volunteers to drive kids into the mountains.
